We Have Always Been Here
This story looks at one woman’s journey in a very little talked about community- Queer Muslims. The author shares her tumultuous story of immigration to Canada from Pakistan as a child. Her evolving relationship with herself and self acceptance is really beautiful. Self acceptance leads to being comfortable with who she is around her family. It is a story that I hope is the fire for those who feel other to feel they can share their story. There’s discussion of even the safety of Samra sharing her story as a queer Muslim and her family’s concern for her. The story is bold and brave and I loved it. Also a quick read. Looking forward to more from the author.
