Pro-reading and anti-diet
Sitting with the idea of not dieting anymore but not doing the work to be at peace with that has done little for my poor body image. Ok that’s a fucking lie. It’s been BAD. Aside from work I need to do in therapy, I’ve started reading more from experts on this idea of breaking the fat shaming cycle. Below are a few accounts I’ve found (and many you all have awesomely shared with me) as I continue on this journey for self love. The Maintenance Phase podcast has been the greatest unraveler for me (in the best way) to understand that so much of what I have believe around food, diet and health are all wrong. I’ve also saved all of the books below on an anti-diet book list on my book shop page. Also sharing some social media accounts who do a great job talking about this topic. It’s worth sharing that if you follow influencers, make sure you are diversifying who you follow (body size, race, sexual orientation, pronouns). We can talk more about that later.
Social Media accounts to follow:
@yrfatfriend- Aubrey Gordon is a cohost of Maintenance Phase and an all around bad ass. She shares so many thought provoking ideas weekly
@dianesanfilippo- a former diet book writer who has changed her mind
@heytiffanyroe- a therapist with a specialty in intuitive eating
Books to read:
What We Don’t Talk about When We Talk about Fat by Aubrey Gordon
Intuitive Eating by Elyse Resch and Evelyn Tribole
Anti-Diet by Christy Harrison
The Fuck-It Diet by Caroline Dooner
Food Isn’t Medicine by Joshua Wolrich
Fearing the Black Body by Sabrina Strings
Body Talk by Katie Sturino
