The Break
Letβs start this by saying I am not sure I even read the overview of this book and felt blind sided by how heavy it was. All that to say, I love a heavy book and enjoyed/sobbed through this book. This is story of cultural and family trauma that impacts multiple generations. Told from varying perspectives, you are constantly seeing a new angle of the story you just heard and came to understand. Which basically shows you that no one understands anything. The end. A truly heart breaking book about Native communities and how historical systems have continued to ravage them and change the trajectories of every individual. Sexual assuault, domestic violence and addiction triggers on tap with a massive serving of beautiful family love and resilience.
Do I recommend: Yah if you like to cry and hurt and shit like I do.
