North of Normal
I am a sucker for a story from the 70’s. I am a sucker for a story about modern people who live off the grid. And I also think I would have made a really great hippy. Love a flow dress, a wide leg, the smell of weed and a protest.
Now that we got that out of the way, this book was perfect for me. I could not put it down. Cea’s childhood is so fucked up in so many ways. She is forced to grow up instantly and understand the adult world down roads she is not equipped for. It was beautifully written. It was horribly painful. It reminded me of the Glass Castle in a great way. As much as she wanted to be everything but her childhood, she couldn’t escape it until she understood it.
Do I recommend: Yes and if you haven’t read The Glass Castle, plz do
